Men's Sports
Soccer
Our men’s soccer team competes in the MIAA C conference. The team is coached by Mr. Andrew Ganzzermiller ’01, who was an all conference member of our 1999 and 2000 championship teams. Coach Ganzzermiller played four years at Goucher College and currently teaches PE in our school. Last year’s team lost in the MIAA Final’s, while the JV won their conference championship. OLMC has won soccer championships in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1989, 1995, 1999, 2000 and a JV championship in 2009.
Football
Watch as the football team prepares for its first season in the MIAA!
Robb Johnson, a one-time football standout at Morgan State University who served four years as the head coach at Pikesville High School, has been named the first head coach of the Mount Carmel football program, which will begin its inaugural season on the gridiron this fall. Coach Johnson has spent the last four years as the quarterbacks coach at Bowie State University, serving as both passing game coordinator and recruiting coordinator. Joining Coach Johnson as a special assistant is Lamar King. Coach King was a first round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 1999. Coach King played five years with the Seahawks accumulating 65 tackles and 12 sacks and spent one season on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers injured reserve.
The team will begin competition in the MIAA during the fall of 2011.
Basketball
Coming off of a string of four consecutive championship game appearances, and two semifinal appearances, the Cougars prepare for their final season in the MIAA B conference prior to moving into the A conference and the Baltimore Catholic League. Coach Tom Rose, a former player and coach at Goucher College, has seen his team reach the post season seven consecutive seasons, and have them ranked the last three. Coach Rose was named Coach of the Year by the Baltimore Sun in 2007-08. Our program has sent twelve players onto college, including four at the NCAA DI level. OLMC currently offers a JV team. OLMC has won basketball championships in 1982-83, 2004-05, 2005-06, 2007-08.
Wrestling
2008-09 was OLMC’s first season on the mat. Coached by Mr. Tim Schoen, the team competes in the MIAA B conference, as well as in many local and regional tournaments. A 1982 graduate of Chesapeake HS Schoen was county and state champion his senior year. An assistant at Curley for ten years, Schoen was named the Mid-Atlantic assistant coach of the year in 1999. In only its second season, the Cougars have an overall record of 500, and has had two wrestler place in the MIAA’s.
Golf
Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s golf team competes in the MIAA C conference, calling Rocky Point GC their home course. The team is coached by Mr. Jon Cupp, a member of our science department.
Lacrosse
A member of the MIAA C conference, the Cougars are coming off their best two seasons in school history, which included two home play-off games and a trip to the semi-finals.
Baseball
A member of the MIAA B conference, the Cougars have reached the play-offs in eleven of Coach Mike Naunton’s eightteen years of coaching. Assisting Coach Naunton is Mr. Gus Smith (35 years) Mr. Andrew Ganzzermiller ‘01and Mr. Tim Pugh. Ganzzermiller was a member of our 2001 championship team, and coach Pugh pitched professionally in the Phillies organization reaching Double A Reading. The team plays its home games at Renaissance Park, which is immediately next door to our campus. The Cougar’s have won baseball championships in 1984, 1988, 1989, 1992, 2001.
