History

As one Catholic school faced closing its doors, its pastor along with the pastor and principal of neighboring, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Baltimore, Maryland, envisioned a plan that would meet the needs of families in both parishes. Our Lady of Mount Carmel announced its plan to move the preschool program to the campus of the former school and open an early childhood center for children from six weeks through preschool age. This move created additional classroom space at Mount Carmel’s elementary school to welcome children from both parishes. A groundbreaking initiative for Catholic education, the Children’s Center illustrates the faith community’s commitment to foster Catholic education, to embrace the school’s mission to love, serve, and welcome, and to reach beyond the traditional view of a Catholic school.

Today, it is evident that the doors of Mt. Carmel do not limit the reach of its educational vision. Its programs are bursting with life; pre-k classes have doubled in size and the number of infants and toddlers has increased as well. The elementary school continues to provide outstanding academic programs as well as athletics, fine arts, and other extra-curricular activities. Middle school and pre-k students partner for monthly activities. The span of ages in the school sparks joyful learning and growth throughout the community.
