Fine Art Courses
Art 9: Introduction to Art
The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to a variety of materials, skills, and applications in the visual arts. The elements of art and principles of design are explored through drawing, painting, printmaking, design, sculpture and art history.
Art 10: Art Appreciation
Art Appreciation is a one semester course that includes a review of the elements of art and principles of design. Students will be introduced to aesthetics and art criticism and will experiment in various media as the artist would.
Art History I and II
Students have the option of taking one or both semesters of this course. Art History I, offered in the fall, will explore the history of painting with a focus on art vocabulary, famous artists and works of art. Art History II, offered in the spring, will focus on art movements, modern art and artists. Students will complete a visual journal to enforce vocabulary and historical information.
Third Dimension
This course focuses on three dimensional sculptures in a variety of media such as found objects, paper and clay. Students will use problem solving skills to create unique works of art.
Arts and Crafts
This class is for the student who has no previous experience in art; though it is open for anyone who enjoys crafts. Students will work at their own pace to create fun, often utilitarian, works of art.
Introduction to Drawing and Design
The purpose of this course is for the student to use their art background to further artistic growth. Attention will be focused on drawing technique, composition and how the elements of art and principles of design determine the strength of their overall work. Students will further their individual talents through materials and techniques not used previously.
Art Studio
This advanced course is for the serious art student. Attention will be focused on independent study with sophistication of technique and quality of composition as prime objectives. Portfolio development will be emphasized.
Independent Art
This course is similar to Art Studio, but allows the student the choice of working in a specific medium. Students wanting to study art in college would benefit from this course.
Photography
Photography is a one semester course that gives students an introduction to proper usage of the SLR manual camera, darkroom methods, digital photography and a basic history of photography.
