Historic $300,000 Alumni Gift Launches HVAC Improvements at Mount Carmel School Ahead of Centennial

Mount Carmel School has announced a historic milestone as the community prepares for its Centennial celebration in 2027. A transformational $300,000 gift from a dedicated alumnus—the largest single gift in the school’s history—will help launch Phase I of a campus-wide HVAC modernization project beginning in summer 2026. Combined with support from the State of Maryland through a Legislative Bond Initiative sponsored by Richard W. Metzgar and Johnny Ray Salling, this investment marks a significant step forward in enhancing the learning environment for Mount Carmel students.

A Letter from Our President:

Dear Mount Carmel Community,

As we prepare for the Centennial of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in 2027, I am pleased to share important momentum in the continued enhancement of our campus. A remarkable and historic act of generosity from a dedicated alumnus, a $300,000 gift, the largest in our school’s history, reflects a deep belief in our mission and has brought us significantly closer to a fully climate-controlled campus.

This transformational contribution, along with Legislative Bond Initiative funding from the State of Maryland sponsored by Del. Richard W. Metzgar and Sen. Johnny Ray Salling, Phase I of our HVAC project will begin in the high school in June 2026. Due to the scope of work, summer timing, and logistical considerations, beginning in the high school allows us to move forward efficiently while thoughtfully preparing for Phase II and future phases across campus. This approach positions us to begin Phase II in the lower and middle school buildings during summer 2027.

This campus-wide HVAC project will bring air conditioning, improved ventilation, and enhanced climate control to buildings across campus, creating more comfortable learning environments, supporting student success, and helping preserve valuable educational resources.

As part of our broader Centennial preparations, we are also continuing to invest in additional campus enhancements, including the creation of new classroom spaces, replacement of classroom doors, renovation of middle school hallway flooring, and updates to faculty and staff areas, all of which strengthen and enrich our learning environment.

We are deeply grateful for this extraordinary generosity and for the steadfast support of all who support our Mount Carmel community. As we prepare to celebrate our Centennial, we invite others to prayerfully join these important efforts through meaningful support. Every gift, at every level, strengthens our mission and makes a lasting impact on our students and school community.

Thank you for being part of this historic moment in our school’s journey and for helping shape the next century of Mount Carmel.

With gratitude,

Dr. Mindi Imes
