Marques Dent Named Varsity Women's Basketball Coach

Essex, MD - Our Lady of Mount Carmel School is excited to announce the appointment of Marques Dent as Head Varsity Women’s Basketball Coach. 

Dent  began his career with Fort Worthington Middle School, where for eight seasons he served as the Girl’s 8th grade basketball coach.  Since then, Dent has held the position of Head Women’s Junior Varsity basketball Coach at St. Frances Academy.  

President Dr. Mindi Imes believes, "Coach Dent is a perfect fit for Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He joins a school community and athletic department staffed with passionate leaders of young people, who strive to help them realize their full potential."

Marques is a graduate of St. Paul’s School for Boys where he played football, basketball, and baseball.  After St. Paul’s, Dent attended Tennessee State, participating in their ROTC Program. Upon graduation,  Dent  served  in the United States Air Force, earning the rank of  Captain and earned a Masters Degree in Information Technology Management from Webster University. Currently,  Dent is the Board President  of the Baltimore Orioles RBI Program and  5starr Enterprise, a tech company providing support and afterschool programs for public schools in Baltimore. 

Coach Dent remarked, “Coaching at Our Lady of Mount Carmel is an amazing opportunity.  I look forward to leading the program back to the IAAM A Conference play-offs  and positively affecting the lives of young people.”

Interim Athletic Director Michael Naunton comments, “We are so excited to welcome Marques to our athletic program. We believe we hit a home run with this hire. What Marques has done in the community and the fact that he is local to Our Lady of Mount Carmel makes us excited about the future of our women’s basketball program.”

Coach Dent looks to rebuild a strong tradition of Women's Basketball at Mount Carmel that saw the Cougars fall in the IAAM A Conference championship game in 2025 after winning an IAAM conference title in 2022 .
