Mount Carmel Softball Wins IAAM Championship: Cougars Capture Conference Title
The softball team from Our Lady of Mount Carmel School delivered an outstanding postseason run to claim the IAAM C Conference Softball Championship, defeating St. Vincent Pallotti in the title game and cementing one of the program’s most memorable seasons.
Competing in the highly competitive Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM), the Cougars battled through the playoffs with dominant performances before finishing their championship run with an 12-4 victory in the finals.
A Championship Run Through the IAAM Playoffs
Mount Carmel entered the IAAM postseason as the No. 1 seed after posting a strong regular season record of 12–1 overall and 8–0 in conference play. The Cougars carried momentum into the playoffs with a series of commanding wins.
After receiving a bye in the quarterfinals, Mount Carmel overwhelmed Friends School of Baltimore with a 9-2 victory, demonstrating the team’s explosive offense and disciplined defense to secure a spot in the IAAM championship game.
The dominant performances highlighted Mount Carmel’s depth, strong pitching, and timely hitting—key elements that carried the team into the final matchup.
Championship Game: Mount Carmel vs. St. Vincent Pallotti
The championship game featured a competitive battle between Mount Carmel and St. Vincent Pallotti. While the contest remained close early on, the Cougars broke through in the fourth inning, when senior Abby Evans crushed a three-run homerun, giving the Cougars a comfortable lead.
Mount Carmel maintained control through the fifth inning, supported by excellent defence that turned a slick double play, shifting the momentum squarely to the Cougars.
The Cougars bats stayed hot in the sixth inning as Gabby Cox roped a bases loaded double to bring home two runs and Ava Libercci followed with a bases-clearing triple that stretched the Cougars advantage to 12-2.
Mount Carmel eventually would earn their third IAAM Softball Championship.
Reigniting Success
In 2017, the Cougars won their first softball title since 1983. Two years later they added another crown in 2019. This year they ended a 6 year title drought.
The team’s success reflects the dedication of the players, coaches, and supporters who helped elevate the program back to championship form.

Mount Carmel’s championship run was powered by strong leadership from senior catcher Abby Evans and junior pitcher Erin Martin. The Cougars’ balanced lineup, disciplined defense, and resilient mentality proved decisive throughout the playoffs.

The IAAM softball championship represents a significant milestone for Our Lady of Mount Carmel School athletics. The IAAM is the premier league for girls’ athletics across the Baltimore region, featuring dozens of member schools and highly competitive conference play each season.
With the championship victory, Mount Carmel softball not only celebrated a historic achievement but also set the stage for continued success in the seasons ahead.
