Academic Enrichment
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we believe that learning extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom. Our Academic Enrichment Program inspires curiosity, creativity, and exploration—helping students discover their God-given talents and passions while strengthening their academic foundation.
From academics to the arts, our lower school students are offered a well-rounded experience that nurtures both the mind and the spirit. In addition to core subjects like English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Religion, students enjoy a variety of enrichment courses and hands-on experiences designed to make learning exciting and meaningful.
“Specials” – Learning Through Exploration
Each week, K–5 students participate in Specials, where they explore creativity, movement, and innovation through:
- Art – Encouraging imagination and self-expression through color, texture, and design.
- Music – Building rhythm, voice, and appreciation for the beauty of sound.
- Dance – Promoting creativity, coordination, and confidence through movement.
- Physical Education – Developing teamwork, sportsmanship, and physical fitness.
- Technology – Introducing digital literacy, coding basics, and responsible online behavior.
Students also begin exploring foreign language in the lower grades, giving them an early foundation that prepares them to advance in language study when they enter middle school.
Beyond the Classroom
After-School Dance Company
The Elementary OLMC Dance Company gives young performers the chance to grow in skill and confidence under the guidance of two talented instructors. Students explore creative movement, jazz, tap, hip hop, and contemporary dance styles. The year concludes with a beautiful dance recital, and the program has included exciting opportunities such as trips to New York City and an upcoming performance trip to Disney World in 2026.
Chorus
Music fills our halls as students join the Elementary Chorus, performing at special events such as the Blast National Anthem Performance and community service celebrations. Through singing, students learn teamwork, discipline, and the joy of sharing their gifts with others.
Altar Server Program
Faith is at the heart of everything we do. Students who wish to deepen their connection to the Church may join our Altar Server Program, serving at school and parish Masses while growing in faith and leadership.
Field Trips and Experiential Learning
Hands-on learning comes alive through field trips that connect classroom lessons to real-world experiences. Each year, every K–5 class participates in at least two enriching field trips. Past destinations have included New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Sight & Sound Theatre, and local Baltimore historical sites. These adventures foster curiosity, cultural appreciation, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we celebrate the joy of learning in all its forms. Through academics, the arts, faith, and enrichment, our lower school students build a strong foundation for lifelong learning—anchored in faith, inspired by discovery, and guided by love.
