Technology
Technology courses are essential to every Catholic school curriculum. Technology is required to be integrated throughout each course of study from Mathematics to Religion. The use of technology in the 21st century is integral to preparing students for college and career success. Technology courses in Catholic schools cover a variety of lessons including Research and Information Fluency, Digital Citizenship, Creativity and Innovation, Communication, and Collaboration. All of these units are taught and influenced through the lens of Catholic identity and the dignity of all humankind.
Technology at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School – Lower School (K–5)
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, our youngest learners begin their journey into the world of technology through exploration, creativity, and faith. Grounded in our Catholic identity, technology at OLMC is more than just a subject—it’s a tool for discovery, communication, and innovation, helping students see how their learning connects to the world around them.
From Kindergarten through 5th grade, technology is seamlessly integrated into every subject—from Mathematics to Religion—cultivating essential 21st-century skills such as research and information fluency, digital citizenship, creativity, and collaboration. Every lesson is shaped by our commitment to the dignity of every person and guided by values rooted in our faith.
Technology in the Classroom
Tablets for Kindergarten
Our youngest Cougars begin with tablets designed for early learners. These devices help Kindergarten students engage with interactive lessons, explore foundational technology skills, and practice early literacy and math through programs like IXL—all in a safe and age-appropriate way.
Chromebook Initiative (Grades 1–5)
Students in grades 1–5 use classroom Chromebooks to enhance lessons, conduct research, and collaborate on projects. These devices remain at school, supporting a balance between traditional learning and digital exploration. Teachers skillfully blend books, paper, and technology, ensuring that students develop both academic depth and digital confidence.
SMART Boards in Every Classroom
Each elementary classroom is equipped with a SMART Board, turning lessons into interactive experiences that engage every learner. Students have opportunities to come to the board, touch, draw, and interact—bringing their learning to life in exciting and meaningful ways.
Building Digital Skills
Every student in grades 1–5 participates in Technology Class, where they learn foundational computer skills such as typing, navigating software programs, and using digital tools for learning. Students are also introduced to digital citizenship, developing the understanding of how to be responsible, respectful, and safe online.
Digital Safety and Responsibility
At OLMC, digital safety is a priority. Through our Bark program, online activity is carefully monitored to help protect students and promote responsible internet use. Additionally, GoGuardian allows administrators to guide students’ digital engagement, ensuring that technology supports learning in a safe, structured, and faith-filled environment.
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, our lower school students don’t just use technology—they grow with it. With faith as their foundation and innovation as their pathway, our students are developing the digital skills, confidence, and creativity to thrive in the world ahead.
