Student Performance

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, we believe that true academic excellence begins with curiosity, confidence, and care. Our elementary students are nurtured in an environment that celebrates learning and faith, helping them grow spiritually, intellectually, socially, and emotionally.

From the very first day of school, students are encouraged to think critically, explore creatively, and live out the Gospel values that guide all we do.

A Strong Foundation in Faith and Learning

Our K–5 program provides a rich and balanced curriculum rooted in the Archdiocese of Baltimore standards. Each student receives a well-rounded education in Religion, ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies, complemented by courses in Art, Music, Dance, Physical Education, Technology, and Spanish.

Teachers differentiate instruction to meet the needs of every learner—ensuring that every child is challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their highest potential.

In grades K–2, students build early literacy skills through Saxon Phonics, while grades 3–5 focus on higher-level comprehension and writing through Scholastic StoryWorks. Students also begin cursive writing in third grade and use planners to develop strong study habits and organization skills at an early age.

Nurturing Growth Through Data and Care

At OLMC, we believe data tells a story—and we use it to help every student thrive. Since the 2022–2023 school year, our Lower School have shown consistent growth in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) scores, reflecting our dedication to academic improvement and individualized support.

How We Support Student Growth

  • IXL Integration: Students practice personalized learning skills at school and at home.
  • Calm & Focused Testing: MAP testing takes place in homerooms to create a relaxed environment.
  • Mindful Preparation: Before testing, students pray, reflect, and use affirmations to focus their minds.
  • Teacher Collaboration: Staff analyze MAP data together and adjust instruction based on trends.
  • Parent Partnership: Results are shared every trimester, and progress is reviewed at conferences.

Beyond the Numbers

Standardized test scores are just one measure of success. What truly sets OLMC apart is our commitment to the whole child—developing faith-filled, curious, and capable students who love to learn.
Our students leave the elementary program as:

  • Confident learners with strong foundational skills.
  • Compassionate friends who value kindness and respect.
  • Faith-driven leaders ready to make a difference in their community.
