Student Services

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we believe in educating the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. Our Student Services Department ensures that every student is supported academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually in a nurturing, faith-filled environment. Through compassionate care, proactive programs, and strong community partnerships, we help our students grow into confident, kind, and resilient young people who live out their faith in action.

Supporting Our Students

School Nurse
Our dedicated school nurse provides daily care for students and promotes overall health and wellness throughout the school community. In addition to addressing immediate medical needs, our nurse teaches students about proper hygiene, healthy habits, and how to prevent the spread of germs—helping to keep our OLMC family safe and well.

School Counselor
Our school counselor, serves as a vital support for students, teachers, and families. She meets with students individually or in small groups and also visits classrooms to teach social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons. Topics include friendship skills, empathy, respect, conflict resolution, and managing emotions—all rooted in the Catholic values of kindness and compassion.

Through programs like FRIENDZY, both Lower and Middle School students learn how to build healthy relationships, practice self-awareness, and grow as caring, faith-driven members of our school community.

Academic and Behavioral Support

Student Assistance Plan (SAP) Coordinator and Aide
Our SAP team—led by a licensed special educator—reviews and creates individualized Student Assistance Plans (SAPs) for students who need additional academic or behavioral support. SAPs ensure that each child’s needs are met through classroom accommodations, teacher collaboration, and ongoing communication with families. The SAP team works closely with the administration team to review plans, assess progress, and ensure a positive, inclusive learning experience for every student.

Social-Emotional and Mental Health Programs
At OLMC, mental and emotional wellness are priorities. Throughout the year, our students participate in special initiatives that promote kindness, resilience, and self-worth, including:

  • Anti-Bullying Week: A week dedicated to promoting respect and standing up against bullying. Guest speakers—including presenters from the Maryland Safe Schools Initiative, the Lally Foundation, and the Maryland State Troopers—help students understand how to recognize, report, and prevent bullying.
  • Mental Health Week: Focused on student well-being, this week includes engaging lessons, guest speakers, and discussions on mindfulness, self-care, and seeking help when needed.
  • Love Your Body Week: Led by members of the National Junior Dance Honor Society, this initiative celebrates self-confidence and body positivity, reminding students that everyone is wonderfully made in God’s image.

These programs, along with frequent classroom lessons led by our counselor and religion teachers, ensure that students feel seen, valued, and supported in every area of their development.

Beyond the Classroom

Career Day
Students in grades K–8 have the opportunity to hear from professionals across a wide range of fields, exploring how their passions and talents can shape their future vocations. Past presenters have included local authors, community leaders, and law enforcement professionals who share how faith and purpose guide their careers.

Before and After School Care Program
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel we offer an extended day program that is open to all families with students in grades K-8. This helps families who may need to drop their students off early, or pick them up after the 3:00pm dismissal time. To learn more please visit our Before & After School Programs Page.

Whole-Child Education Rooted in Faith

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, student services go far beyond academics. We are committed to nurturing the spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of every child who walks through our doors. Through guidance, compassion, and community partnerships, we help each student discover their gifts, strengthen their character, and grow into the person God created them to be.
