Signature Programs

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, our Middle School program prepares students to excel academically, grow as leaders, and thrive in high school and beyond. Every course, activity, and program is designed to challenge students, celebrate their strengths, and help them discover new interests — all in a faith-centered, supportive environment.

Rigorous, Differentiated Curriculum

OLMC Middle School follows the Maryland State Curriculum for all core subjects:
  • English Language Arts (ELA)
  • Mathematics – Students are placed according to ability and can progress as high as Geometry. Placement is flexible, allowing students to move pathways during the school year if appropriate.
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Physical Education & Gym
  • Visual Arts & Music
  • Technology
  • Foreign Language

Our differentiated approach ensures that every student is challenged at their level, with opportunities to advance academically while mastering foundational skills.

Choice-Based Enrichment

We believe in the power of choice and in allowing students to explore areas of interest deeply. Our elective program, similar to a magnet-style approach, lets students specialize in subjects they are passionate about, with options including:
  • Broadcasting
  • Art Theory
  • Music Appreciation
  • Theatrical Arts
  • STEM & Coding
  • Dance

These electives are graded courses, allowing students to take ownership of their learning and be recognized for their achievements. Students may remain in the same course all three years or explore new areas each year.

Social-Emotional Learning

Every class participates in the Friendzy Program, which teaches empathy, healthy friendships, and conflict resolution — all rooted in Gospel values.

Tools for Academic Growth

  • MAP Testing: Tracks student growth and helps teachers differentiate lessons.
  • IXL: Interactive online practice strengthens math and language skills in and out of the classroom.
  • Summer Work Program: Ensures students maintain skills and stay ready for the next grade level.

The OLMC House System

Our House System is a cornerstone of middle school life, fostering leadership, community, and school spirit as part of our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program.
  • Every student is placed into one of four Houses: St. Francis, St. Elizabeth, St. Simon, or St. Teresa.
  • Houses embody virtues and leadership qualities that guide students in daily life.
  • Students earn points for positive behavior, academic effort, and acts of kindness.
  • Cougar Paychecks: Students receive daily rewards that can be spent in the school store.
  • Saint of the Month: Recognizes individual students for outstanding character and effort.

OLMC’s House System has received state recognition from Maryland PBIS, including awards such as Data on My Mind, Power of Teaching, and Our Classroom, Our Community.

Why the House System Matters

  • Builds Belonging: Students connect across grades, forming meaningful relationships.
  • Encourages Leadership: Opportunities for House Leaders and team responsibilities teach accountability and initiative.
  • Reinforces Faith and Character: Daily interactions and challenges are rooted in Gospel values and ethics.
  • Promotes School Spirit: Houses unite students in healthy competition, service projects, and celebrations.
At OLMC Middle School, learning goes beyond textbooks. Students grow academically, spiritually, and socially — becoming leaders who are prepared to make a difference in school, community, and life.
