Student Performance

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, our Middle School program is designed to inspire curiosity, independence, and leadership as students prepare for the transition to high school. Students in grades 6–8 are challenged academically, nurtured spiritually, and empowered socially through a program that emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, and Catholic values.

Academic Excellence and Growth

Our academic program follows the Archdiocese of Baltimore curriculum, enhanced with programs that foster academic rigor and personal growth. Teachers integrate data-driven instruction using MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing three times a year to ensure that every student is learning at their optimal level.

Key academic supports include:

  • Data-Informed Instruction: Teachers analyze MAP results to adjust instruction, set goals, and support individual growth.
  • IXL Integration: Students use IXL both in and outside the classroom to reinforce key skills and support mastery in Math, Reading, and ELA.
  • Student Planners: All students receive planners to build organizational skills, helping them learn responsibility and time management.
  • Study Skills & Independence: Middle schoolers learn how to take notes, prepare for tests, and manage long-term projects, setting a strong foundation for high school success.

MAP Performance and Academic Growth

Since the 2022–2023 school year, Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s middle school students have demonstrated consistent growth in MAP Reading and ELA scores, performing above the national average in several categories. This success reflects our commitment to fostering both academic excellence and student well-being.

Our approach includes:

  • Mindful Testing Environments: During MAP testing, students remain in their homerooms for comfort and focus.
  • Preparation through Prayer and Reflection: Students begin each testing day with prayer and affirmations, building confidence and calm.
  • Ongoing Data Conversations: Teachers, students, and parents discuss progress each trimester to set personalized academic goals.

Preparing for High School and Beyond

By the end of eighth grade, Our Lady of Mount Carmel middle school students are:

  • Academically Prepared: Confident and capable learners ready for high school rigor.
  • Spiritually Grounded: Rooted in Catholic values and a strong moral foundation.
  • Community-Minded Leaders: Empowered to serve and lead in their faith and local communities.
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, middle school is more than preparation for high school—it’s preparation for life.
