Technology

Technology courses are essential to every Catholic school curriculum. Technology is required to be integrated throughout each course of study from Mathematics to Religion. The use of technology in the 21st century is integral to preparing students for college and career success. Technology courses in Catholic schools cover a variety of lessons including Research and Information Fluency, Digital Citizenship, Creativity and Innovation, Communication, and Collaboration. All of these units are taught and influenced through the lens of Catholic identity and the dignity of all humankind.

Technology at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School - Middle School (6-8th Grade)

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we believe that technology is not just a tool—it’s a bridge to creativity, innovation, and lifelong learning. Rooted in our Catholic identity, our technology program empowers students to use digital resources responsibly, ethically, and collaboratively, preparing them for success in high school, college, and beyond.
From Mathematics to Religion, technology is woven throughout every course of study, helping students develop key 21st-century skills such as research and information fluency, digital citizenship, creativity and innovation, communication, and collaboration—all guided by respect for the dignity of every person.

Technology in the classroom

Chromebook Initiative
Every middle school student (grades 6–8) is provided with a Chromebook for in-class use. These devices remain with students throughout their three years at OLMC, allowing them to develop strong digital literacy skills, collaborate effectively, and stay organized as they grow into confident, capable digital learners.

Digital Safety and Responsibility
OLMC is committed to creating a safe and supportive digital environment for all students. Our Bark program actively monitors online activity to ensure responsible use and promote student safety. In addition, GoGuardian allows administrators to monitor and guide student engagement during lessons, ensuring that online learning remains focused, productive, and secure. We also partner with the state police to do presentations on Digital Citizenship with the middle school students.

Interactive Learning Tools
Our classrooms are equipped with SMART Boards or display screens that enable teachers to cast lessons directly from their computers, creating interactive and dynamic learning experiences. Teachers blend traditional learning methods with modern technology—combining books and paper with digital exploration—to achieve a healthy and effective balance.

Innovation and Exploration
In our dedicated Technology Lab, students have access to cutting-edge tools, including a VR set and a 3D printer, where they can bring their ideas to life through hands-on design and creation. Middle school students also explore coding, robotics, and computer engineering, taking apart Chromebooks, building robots, and applying problem-solving skills in exciting, real-world ways.

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, technology isn’t just something we use—it’s something we live, explore, and grow through together. Our students don’t just learn about the digital world—they’re shaping the future of it.
